Thais and Beauty Pageants
The "Miss Siam" contest, first held in 1934, marked the formal beginning of beauty pageants in Thailand, laying the foundation for the nation’s beauty traditions. Beauty pageants have long been deeply connected to Thai culture, particularly through their association with the Songkran Festival. Each year, a "goddess" or deity is chosen to represent each day of Songkran, and participants dress in elaborate costumes to embody these deities during the parades. This tradition celebrates beauty while preserving cherished customs that have been passed down through generations.
